out some intricate, bone crushing, high-speed grindmetal.
The music is definitely metal and the only things
that keeps BLINDSPOT A.D. within the hardcore area
are the hoarse screamed, despaired vocals! I rarely
listen to stuff like this but somehow I totally
worship this CD and I really wished every metal
band would play in such an overwhelming style… If
you’re open minded you have to get this little shiny
disc, that also includes a sample out of “Matrix”
(yeah!!), immediately!!

Acht ganze Jahre hat es gedauert bis BLINDSPOT A.D.
nach diversen Demos und Singles der Hardcore Gemeinde
nun ihr Debutalbum vorlegen. Wie man es von Per
Koro Releases gewohnt ist, muss man sich auch bei
„Knowledge vs. Fear“ auf ein Metalgewitter gefasst
machen, das es wahrlich in sich hat. Die große Stärke
dieser Platte ist, dass die Songs sehr abwechslungsreich
sind und das Ganze trotzdem wie aus einem Guss,
wie eine Einheit wirkt. Hier kommt wirklich zu keiner
Sekunde Langeweile auf. BLINDSPOT A.D. verbinden
neben ihren Hardcore Roots gekonnt Death Metal mit
schnellen wüsten Grindcore-Attacken, dazu kommt
an etlichen Stellen ein verspieltes Chaos, für das
Bands wie CONVERGE berühmt sind. Auch cleane, langsame
Gitarren Parts kann man auf „Knowledge vs. Fear“
finden, was die Vielschichtigkeit des Albums nur
noch mal bestätigt. Mir fällt spontan auch keine
Band ein mit der ich den Gesamtsound von BLINDSPOT
A.D. vergleichen kann und das ist alles andere als
negativ gemeint. Die Texte sind alle sehr persönlich
gehalten und auf alle Fälle interessant und lesenswert.
Teils in Englisch, teils in Deutsch geschrieben.
Das Layout kann auch als durchaus gelungen bezeichnet
werden, verantwortlich dafür war André Liegl, der
Name steht ja eigentlich für Qualität. Empfehlen
kann man „Knowledge vs. Fear“ jedem, der ein abwechslungsreiche,
frische und etwas verspielte Musik der härteren
Gangart hören will!

Green Hell Records haben dieses Album in einer ihrer
Mailorderlisten mit Sprüchen wie „Nehmt die Brutalität
des Death Metals, die Geschwindigkeit des Grindcores,
die Intensität des Hardcore, garniert all dies mit
einer guten Portion Chaos und Melodie blablabla"
komplett in den Himmel gehoben, aber da die ihr
Sortiment verkaufen wollen/müssen ist klar, dass
die nichts Negatives über ihr Angebot schreiben!
Exakt diese Tatsache geht mir bei den allermeisten
Mailordern übrigens richtig auf die Nüsse: Die preisen
jede Scherbe, egal aus welcher Richtung oder wie
beschissen die auch immer sein mag, als den (!!)
Pflichtkauf schlechthin an, aber das ist ein vollkommen
anderes Thema, also konzentriere ich mich jetzt
auf die „Knowledge vs. fear" CD!! BLINDSPOT A.D.
haben auf diesem Album ausnehmend schnelle, radikale
sowie brachiale Klänge einschließlich massig geschrienem
Gesang produziert und auch wenn ich es nicht gerne
zugebe, muss ich gestehen, dass Green Hell Records
diesen Longplayer wirklich ziemlich treffend umschrieben
haben. In fact würde die „Knowledge vs. fear" CD,
wenn BLINDSPOT A.D. einen groben Growler an vorderster
Front platziert hätten, als eine reine Death Metal
Scheibe durchgehen... Diese dreizehn Tracks, die
spannende 37:45 Minuten laufen, bringen, auch wenn
ich hier keinerlei grindige Einflüsse ausmachen
konnte, ständig todmetallastigen, Mark und Bein
durchdringenden, intensiven Brutalocore der edelsten
Spielweise und von daher ist dieses Teil absolut
prächtig, was nicht nur an dem geilen Sample aus
„Matrix" liegt!!

After 8 years it’s finally time for Blindspot A.D.
to release their debut full length. This isn’t your
typical German metalcore like Caliban or Heaven
Shall Burn, nor does it sound like the typical style
from Bremen. This is pretty hard to get into, first
of all the voice sounds pretty strange and isn’t
your typical grunt or growl, but leans more towards
the out of tune screamo vocals. The music sounds
pretty twisted as well. Chaotic hardcore is being
combined with metal riffs and a lot of different
styles in between. Some melodic Deathmetal riffs
pass by and a few seconds later a more chaotic riff
gets played. After a couple of songs I must admit
that the vocals begin to annoy me, I rather hear
some evil screams or growls instead of these weird
vocals. The music itself is enjoyable and definitely
has got a face of its own. I must say that I like
the slow song “In My Heart” best, it’s a very slow
but driven song that sound heavy and dreamy at the
same time. The lyrics are misanthropic, but also
contain some political messages. The artwork looks
okay, but nothing special though. I can’t say that
this is an album you must have, and I suggest you
listen to it first before you buy it, you might
like this!

Blindspot A.D. - Knowledge vs. Fear CD
Finally the first album by this southern Germany
band, after an existence of over eight years and
a lot of DIY records they made it! They already
released several demo-tapes, CD-R's, split 7"s and
the 7" "Pain Is Not The Cleanser" which was the
last record and put out 2001! But times changed,
members and the sound of Blindspot A.D. too, they
definitely developed their sound to something unique
in these days because they add several hardcore
and metal elements to form a blistering mayhem.
Their sound ranges from old school sounding passages
to death metal parts, grindcore madness and rare
screamo sounds, they combine a lot different styles
to one all overrunning thick sound! And that's what
I love about them, because beside all the new metal
influences they never forget to play hardcore and
even punk stuff! Beside all those moshing and heavy
stuff they also add atmospherically tunes within
the ninth song "In My Heart" that could probably
be made by Cave In and also could create mood they
do! But mostly they thrash through their songs with
neverending aggression and the singer is screaming
at the top of his lungs. The lyrics of him are very
critical and in German and English! It's pretty
crazy when they write a fast attack and in the next
moment they play heavy and sludgy mosh-riffs! But
"Knowledge vs. Fear" isn't easy listening stuff,
you really have to get into the album and must listen
to it several times and than you can't get enough
of it! The layout was done by André Liegl and is
like the music awesome as well and it's the perfect
packaging for this sound. I hope this band gets
more attention in the future and with that album
they'll do for sure because they are one of the
best German Hardcore bands and hopelessly underrated.

BLINDSPOT A.D. - Knowledge Vs. Fear
Although the band exists for 9 years now, the big
breakthrough hasn`t been achieved yet. The new record
on Per Koro could be a huge step into this direction
though. Musically the guys use a lot of different
styles to express their music. If you`d try to label
them to a certain genre of Hardcore or Metal, forget
it. It`s not possible. You get 13 songs that range
from fast and melodic Death Metal passages to chaotic
and brutal outbursts to silent and quiet parts to
Grind attacks to sludgy moments to a Screamo like
voice to the use of sound samples and so on... To
be honest, I am not a huge fan of these chaotic/noise
elements. This is why I had a hard time with some
of the songs. Not my style... Ok, they use a lot
of numerous and different musical styles on the
one hand, the vocals could have been a little bit
more diversified though... Summing up: A very unique
album by this five piece from the far southwest
of Germany that cannot be compared to any other
record or band (at least that I know of). They definitely
don`t follow any trends and do what THEY like best.
I have to give the band credits for that...

Wenn eine Platte auf Per Koro erscheint kann man
sich ja in den meisten Fällen sicher sein, dass
sie sich kaum als geeignete Hintergrundmusik für
den nächsten Besuch bei den Eltern handelt - es
sei denn die Eltern sind von Beruf Bezerker und
lieben es bei jedem Zusammentreffen die Wohnung
zu zerlegen. Auch Blindspot A. D., die aus dem Süden
Deutschlands stammen und bereits seit acht Jahren
emsig den Untergrund beackern, sind eine von diesen
Bands, die einem so kräftig die Gehörgänge durchpusten
dass Ohrstäbchen ihre Daseinsberechtigung verlieren.
In der Hauptsache ist das Grind, böser, lauter,
harter und schneller Grind, also Geknüppel ohne
Ende mit üblem, auf Dauer allerdings ein wenig eintönigem
Gekeife. Auch Death Metal- und Chaos-Hardcore-Elemente
schimmern von Zeit zu Zeit durch, und kleinere,
melodiöse Emo-Zwischenstückchen mit cleanem Gesang
geben Zeit zum Luftholen, trotz allem ist "Knowledge
Vs. Fear" aber ein gnadenloser Angriff auf die Trommelfelle.
Wie heißt es in der Presse-Info zu dieser CD so
schön "Death To False Metal!". Wohl wahr......

schon vorab mit lorbeeren aus der szene überhäuft,
können BLINDSPOT A.D. nicht nur in punkto aufmachung
mit ihrem lange erwarteten longplayer kräftig punkten.
dem fünfer aus friedrichshafen gelang mit "knowledge
vs. fear" nämlich das, wonach derzeit so viele ehemalige
hardcore-kapellen trachten: die nahezu perfekte
symbiose aus der rohen energie der punk-wurzeln
auf der einen, und der versierten dynamik der besseren
deathmetal-acts auf der anderen seite. aber damit
nicht genug: die 13 songs stecken voller interessanter
ideen und lassen zu keiner sekunde langeweile aufkommen.
in tracks wie "short story of death" mischen sich
halsbrecherische tempiwechsel und breaks mit noise-elementen
und groovenden riffs zu einem echten killertrack.
an anderer stelle wagt man sich in screamo-terrain
oder überrascht mit straightem geknüppel. BLINDSPOT
A.D. haben in diese aufnahmen jede menge herzblut
gesteckt, was sich neben musik und dem erwähnten
exzellenten layout übrigens auch in den ambitionierten,
sehr persönlichen texten bemerkbar macht. ach ja,
und das mastering liess man mal eben in den "morrisound"-studios
erledigen - MORBID ANGEL lassen grüssen (... auch
wenn selbige weder als musikalisches und schon gar
nicht als idealistisches vorbild gedient haben dürften).
"knowledge vs. fear" darf jedenfalls bereits jetzt
zu den bemerkenswertesten debütalben des jahres
gezählt werden.

Das allererste, was mir bei Blindspot AD in den
Sinn kam, war: “Verdammt, die müssen ja live abgehen
wie Schmitzs Katze!”, denn Blindspot AD bieten auf
„Knowledge vs. Fear“ ein so dermaßen derbes und
fettes Brett, daß das Ganze live den Zuhörer an
die Wand pressen muß. Nehmt die Brutalität des Death
Metals, die Geschwindigkeit des Grindcores, die
Intensität des Hardcore, garniert all dies mit einer
guten Portion Chaos und Melodie und ihr könnt euch
ein gutes Bild von der Hölle machen, die Euch hier
erwartet...oberfett produziert und außerdem gemastert
in den legendären Morrissound Studios (in dem in
den Neunziger Jahren jede zweite Death Metal Band
aufgenommen hat) und auch aufmachungstechnisch einfach
wunderschön...hier passt einfach alles!

Was lange währt, wird nicht immer gut, aber im Falle
von BLINDSPOT A.D. bewahrheitet sich die Redewendung
zweifellos. Aus dem Süden Deutschlands stammend,
spielt sich die Band schon ganze acht Jahre durch
den dt. Underground um nun auf Per Koro seinen ersten
Longplayer vorzulegen. “Knowledge Vs. Fear“ ist
zum einen ein super Album-Titel und zum anderen
eine Hammer-Platte. Im weitesten Sinne sind BLINDSPOT
A.D. Metalcore, doch eigentlich wird diese Einordnung
der Band nicht gerecht. Als Ausgangspunkt ist der
Term aber hilfreich. Die Jungs sind deutlich im
Hardcore verwurzelt, das ist unüberhörbar, aber
gleichfalls sind Metal- und Hardcore- Anteil in
ihrem Einsatz nahezu ausgewogen. Klingt noch nicht
sonderlich spannend, aber es kommt auf die Umsetzung
an, und die ist hier äußerst gelungen. BLINDSPOT
A.D. bauen aus chaotischen Hardcore-Parts, ungestümem
Death Metal, abgedrehten Grind-Attacken, ganz vielen
Melodien und Emo-Screamo-Gesang eine eigene Interpretation
intensiven Sounds, der leicht ins Extreme geht.
Hoch-dynamisch und zu jeder Sekunde stark interessant,
geht es durch 37 Minuten Spielzeit. “Knowledge Vs.
Fear“ ist wie ein Schlag in die Fresse, hart und
unerbittlich. Es gibt aber auch ruhige, fast zerbrechlich
anmutende Passagen, die unglaubliche Stimmungen
aufbauen. Beispielhaft sei der neunte Track ’In
my Heart’ genannt. Vor allem geht’s aber schnell
und abgedreht zur Sache. Dennoch entspringt der
gesamten Aufnahme unglaublich viel Gefühl und man
spürt regelrecht das Herzblut der fünf Musiker.
BLINDSPOT A.D. haben es drauf, keine Frage. Erfrischend
finde ich vor allem, dass sich die Band keinen Konventionen
beugt und ihr eigenes Ding durchzieht. Gerade davon
lebt die Platte. Vergleiche sind da nicht zu ziehen.
Auch textlich hat die Band etwas zu sagen und einige
der Stücke werden gar deutsch vorgetragen. Keine
Angst, sie sind nicht pathetisch. “Knowledge Vs.
Fear“ ist ein Super-Debüt, dass ich Euch wärmstens
ans Herz lege.

Dieser Siebenzöller ist der Vorgänger zum kürzlich
erschienen Album. Die 7" hat 9 Songs im Blindspot
a.d. typischen Stil, nur noch nicht ganz so ausgereift
wie auf dem neuen Album. Alle Lieder sind relativ
schnell, mit coolen Mosh – und Grindparts und vielen
Breaks. Die Stimme von Sänger Pat ist wie gehabt
hell und mit viel Gekreische, passt somit natürlich
gut zur Musik. Die Aufmachung der 7" ist auch gelungen,
das Vinyl hat zwei Farben und ist in ein ansprechendes
Pappcover zum aufklappen eingefasst, welches von
den Farben gut zum Vinyl passt. Aber mir liegt noch
eine weitere Pressung vor, die sog. "Collectors-Nerdition",
limitiert auf 100 Stück und in klarem Vinyl, in
eine schwarze Hülle eingeschweißt. Auch cool. Wer
bei der Band freundlich nachfragt, kann sicher noch

Blindspot A.D. - Stumme Gesichter MCD
A 20-song DIY CD-R from my favourite german punx!
The songs were recorded between 1996 and 1999 with
different line-ups and at various places. 15 songs
that are interrupted by three interludes and started
by an Intro and ended by a short Outro. The first
thing I honour is the layout/artwork it comes along
in a cardbox - packaging with stamped logo and the
booklet has a full coloured cover and is hand-copied.
Fuck this is DIY! Musically the guys just banned
their power and anger and paired it with fast parts
and a lot tempo-changes. The lyrics are mainly in
German whereat they contain several English parts
within the songs but mainly I can't understand them
while Pat is screaming his lungs out, the vocals
are also distorted at some passages. He screams
about personal and societal topics whereat all lyrics
are critical. Blindspot A.D. exceed all limits between
punk and hardcore and formed a blistering attack
of pissed of hardcore with attitude. Sometimes they
sound just like an ungovernably noise attack but
than they throw in so sweet guitar melodies. Somebody
might say that the production isn't the best and
one reason for that is the 8 track recording but
you shouldn't count on that and give this piece
of unconventional music with strong beliefs and
ass kicking rhythms a try!
